Spring Weekend Intensive Recap: How We Got the Bible

This spring from March 13–15, Compass Bible Institute hosted its Weekend Intensive, How We Got the Bible: From Manuscripts to Modern Translations, led by guest lecturer Dr. Daniel Stevens of Boyce College and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Over the course of the weekend, students were given a focused and rigorous introduction to the transmission of Scripture. Dr. Stevens walked through the historical process by which the biblical text was preserved, copied, and translated, equipping students to understand both the reliability of Scripture and the discipline of textual criticism.

The sessions covered key topics such as the nature of ancient manuscripts, the work of scribes, the development of the canon, and the principles behind modern English translations. The material consistently returned to a central conviction: God has faithfully preserved His Word.

Students benefited not only from the academic depth of the lectures but also from their direct relevance to ministry. Questions about variants, translations, and the trustworthiness of the Bible are increasingly common, and this intensive helped prepare students to answer those questions with clarity and confidence.

Events like this reflect our commitment to serious Bible training that serves the church. By grounding students in both the content of Scripture and the history of its transmission, CBI continues to equip men and women to handle the Word of God faithfully.
