Professor Illescas was born and raised in Southern California, where he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Concordia University Irvine. He brings an extensive background in business insurance and risk management to his ministry. He earned a Master of Divinity degree from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Professor Illescas is a staff pastor at Compass Bible Church, Aliso Viejo, where he oversees Iglesia Biblica Compas and the Together single parents ministry.

Professor Illescas and his wife, Lauren, have been married since 2008 and have four children: Audrey, Melody, Halle, and Jude.
