Professor Allen grew up in Arlington, Texas. He earned a bachelor's degree in business management and marketing and a master's degree in human resources management from Long Island University. He is currently pursuing a Master of Divinity degree at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Professor Allen is a staff pastor at Compass Bible Church, Aliso Viejo, where he oversees the men's ministry, the Adult Bible Fellowship, and Compass Active.

Professor Allen and his wife, Chelsea, have been married since 2012 and have four children: Bryce, Blake, Tristan, and Caleb.
